Book Spotlight: The Riverman: Ted Bundy and I Hunt for the Green River Killer by Robert D. Keppel

The Riverman: Ted Bundy and I Hunt for the Green River Killer  is a 2004 book by Robert D. Keppel, Ph.D., with William J. Birnes. Everyone knows that Ted Bundy was one of the most notorious serial killers of all time, but many people don't know that Bundy offered his assistance in the search for the Green River Killer. Bundy was already on Death Row in Florida at the time, and since he considered himself an expert on serial killers, he allowed Robert Keppel and Dave Reichert, the lead investigators of the Green River Killer task force, to interview him several times so they could gain insight into the mind of a serial killer. Keppel had previously been part of a Seattle task force trying to catch Bundy. The first victim of the Green River Killer was discovered in the summer of 1982, spotted by two boys riding their bikes on the Peck Bridge in Kent, Washington. The victim was a 16-year-old prostitute named Wendy Lee Coffield, and she was found nude with a pair of jeans tied tightl

The Golden State Killer: It's Finally Over

Image
More than forty decades after his reign of terror began, the Golden State Killer/Original Night Stalker/East Area Rapist has finally been identified and arrested. His name is Joseph James DeAngelo, and he's a former cop who was fired for shoplifting dog repellent and a hammer in 1979. As I've said before, Michelle McNamara's I'll Be Gone in the Dark: One Woman's Obsessive Search for the Golden State Killer  really creeped me out and inspired me to start this blog, so of course I'm thrilled that the Golden State Killer has finally been caught. Here's a little more about Michelle's work on the case: She stalked the Golden State Killer until she died. Some think her work led to the suspect’s arrest. Michelle was married to Patton Oswalt, who I've been a huge fan of for a long time, and last night he talked about the case on Late Night with Seth Meyers . It was amazing and emotional, and you should definitely watch it. : )

Gifts for True Crime Fans

Looking for a birthday gift for the true crime fan in your life (or just want something for yourself)? I came across a Bustle article about great gifts for true crime buffs, so of course I had to share it here. I might want to put the Blood Bath shower curtain up when it's time to decorate for Halloween, and I like the "Cereal Killer" spoon too. I feel like my kitchen really needs the Bloody Chopping Board, and the Hunt a Killer Box sounds awesome. There are some really cool things on this list, so check it out if you're looking for some gruesome gifts. : ) 15 Gifts for True Crime Fans That Are Sure to Bring Joy to Their Dark, Twisted Hearts

The Ted Bundy Adult Coloring Book

I was browsing Amazon yesterday and came across something that surprised me: the Ted Bundy Adult Coloring Book . I know many adults color to relieve stress, but I have pretty bad carpal tunnel, so I'm not one of them. I thought some you true crime buffs might be interested though. : ) The full title is Ted Bundy Adult Coloring Book: Serial Killer and Convicted Murderer, Pop Culture Icon and Coldest Son of a B*tch Inspired Adult Coloring Book , and it was published in October 2017 by Mary Eddows. If you want to add a little evil to your stress relief routine, this might be the perfect coloring book for you.

The 25 Best True Crime Books of All Time

While searching the internet for true crime books to add to my list of books to review for this blog, I came across Esquire magazine's list of the 25 best. I've already read Ann Rule's The Stranger Beside Me  and Michelle McNamara's I'll Be Gone in the Dark  and am planning on reading Vincent Bugliosi's Helter Skelter , but I might have to check out a few more of the books on this list. The 25 Best True Crime Books of All Time If you were making a list of the best true crime books, which books would you include? I'm always looking for recommendations. : )

In the Footsteps of a Killer

I decided to start a true crime blog after reading Michelle McNamara's I'll Be Gone in the Dark: One Woman's Obsessive Search for the Golden State Killer , so today I thought I'd share her 2013 Los Angeles  magazine article that brought the Golden State Killer (also known as the East Area Rapist and Original Night Stalker) to the attention of a slew of people who had never heard about this case (myself included). It's a fascinating read, but you probably shouldn't read it too close to bedtime. In the Footsteps of a Killer

Movie Spotlight: Zodiac

Zodiac is a 2007 movie starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Mark Ruffalo, Robert Downey, Jr., Anthony Edwards, Brian Cox, Elias Koteas, Donal Logue, John Carroll Lynch, Dermot Mulroney, and Chloe Sevigny. It is based on a 1986 book by Robert Graysmith, who was a political cartoonist at the San Francisco Chronicle when the Zodiac Killer was at large. Zodiac is about the search for the Zodiac Killer, who taunted the police and sent encrypted letters to the  San Francisco Chronicle  as he terrorized San Francisco in the late '60s and early '70s. Zodiac  is a superb film full of impressive performances, particularly Jake Gyllenhaal as cartoonist-turned-amateur detective Robert Graysmith, Robert Downey, Jr. as crime reporter Paul Avery, and Mark Ruffalo as SFPD Inspector David Toschi. I haven't watched a ton of true crime movies (I watch lots of true crime TV shows, but mostly stick to comedy and horror movies), but of the ones I've seen, Zodiac  is the best. It was the best when I w

The Golden State Killer: It's Not Over

Since I recently read (and loved) Michelle McNamara's I'll Be Gone in the Dark: One Woman's Obsessive Search for the Golden State Killer , I've been preoccupied with thoughts of the Golden State Killer, a rapist and murderer who ruined dozens of lives and has never been caught. I did some research and found out that Investigation Discovery had previously aired a four-part docuseries about this unidentified monster, and it's available to watch on their website. I was only able to watch the first episode (which was really interesting and creeped me out), but if you sign in with a cable provider, you can watch the whole series here: The Golden State Killer: It's Not Over

Book Spotlight: I’ll Be Gone in the Dark by Michelle McNamara

Since Michelle McNamara's I'll Be Gone in the Dark: One Woman's Obsessive Search for the Golden State Killer  is what inspired me to start a true crime blog, I thought it would be fitting for this book to be the first one I feature on Cloudy with a Chance of Murder . I'd been looking forward to reading this book ever since I first heard about it, and it was well worth the wait. Sadly, Michelle passed away before she could finish writing the book, but her husband, Patton Oswalt, lead researcher, Paul Haynes, and investigative journalist Billy Jensen took over the task of completing the book and making sure this masterpiece saw the light of day. I'm pretty obsessed with true crime and horror, so I don't get scared easily, but I'll Be Gone in the Dark  had me triple-checking the locks and looking in the closets and behind the shower curtain before I went to bed every night. The Golden State Killer is believed to have committed 10 murders and 50 rapes, so the

The Ghost of Ted Bundy

I posted this on my paranormal blog ( Why would you want to be normal when you could be paranormal? ) a few months ago, but since it pertains to true crime, I thought I should share it here too. Rumor has it that the ghost of Ted Bundy haunts death row in the prison where he was put to death (as well as a few other places). That's one ghost I wouldn't want to run into, but he can't do as much damage as a spirit as he did while he was alive. I hope Bundy isn't still lingering around, but several people have claimed to see his ghost. Go away, Ted, no one wants you here! https://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/shadow-boxing/201210/ted-bundys-ghost

Welcome!

I recently read Michelle McNamara’s amazing I’ll Be Gone in the Dark: One Woman’s Obsessive Search for the Golden State Killer , and it inspired me to start a true crime blog, so here it is! I’ve been interested in true crime for as long as I can remember, and moving to a new state and no longer being able to afford cable has resulted in me watching countless hours of the Justice Network and the Escape Channel, so now I’m even more interested in the subject than I was before. I’ve always been fascinated by evil and what causes people to go down that dark path, and my fascination (and fear) grew after a few wonderful people I knew became victims of murder. I’ve been writing plays about Hell and serial killers for years, but those are comedies (dark, twisted comedies), so I’ll be taking a more serious approach on the blog. I’ll be reviewing true crime books, movies, and TV shows as well as writing about cases that interest me. I chose to call the blog Cloudy with a Chance of Murder be
